ITC First Aid

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who are ITC?

A. We have a belief and ethos of placing the candidate first to provide the best first aid training experience possible. Everything we do is driven by actively seeking improvement in every aspect of operation.

ITC First Aid Ltd is an Awarding Organisation accredited and regulated by OfQual (Official regulator of qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) and the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority). ITC accredited first aid qualifications are found on the NQF (National Qualification Framework).

Immediate Temporary Care is the HSE (Health & Safety Executive) trading arm of ITC First Aid Ltd it carries the HSE approval number 1670/96 for the purposes of providing First Aid at Work qualifications. Immediate Temporary Care is regulated by FAAMS (First Aid Approvals & Monitoring Section) for the HSE.

ITC Providers and Centres across the UK are accredited and verified by ITC for the purposes of training and assessing first aid qualifications.

Q. How will ITC benefit me?

A. We help you start your business and attract clients for you. We have a wealth of experience regarding this sector only one phone call away.
ITC has verifiable quality assurance systems proven by its status as an OfQual accredited Awarding Organisation, SQA approved Awarding Body and HSE Approved Organisation that are an indicator of quality to your clients.
Indeed ITC Providers have an established reputation for excellent first aid training and being the providers of choice for many organisations.
These standards are a minimum for all Providers. ITC Providers aspire to deliver a quality package to their candidates and the ITC organisation aspires to deliver the best support package that it can.
We provide free professional development opportunities every month, technical workshops, standardisation events, support to help with your business development and established trainers to help when things get busy with a wealth of experience and advice to help you get your business off the ground.
Becoming an approved ITC first aid training provider can be the first step to a well paid and highly engaging profession.
Be warned our standards are high and not everyone will achieve them.

Q. Is there a difference between an ITC Trainer and an ITC Provider?

A. To most people not connected to ITC these similar words have a similar meaning. For an individual Provider delivering to their own clients there is little difference between general and ITC usage.

However established Providers may be organisations offering many qualifications courses and employing other Providers as Trainer/Assessors. Thus we have the Provider descriptor.

Provider status stays with the individual no matter who they work for. Centre status stays with the organisation no matter who works for them.

Two differing business models with common standards.

Q. What is the difference between an ITC Provider and a Centre?

A. Providers are individuals who are accredited to deliver ITC qualifications, providing they follow the quality procedures of ITC they will remain on the ITC list of accredited Providers. Provider status stays with the individual if they change employment.
These FAQ in this list relate to Providers.

Centres are accredited to deliver ITC qualifications, they are establishments that have access to suitably qualified staff and the resources to internally verify the performance of these staff. Centres are typically educational establishments like FE colleges. When staff move away from the Centre they lose their ITC status.

Q. How do I become an ITC Provider?

A. Nearly all are required to attend a 2-day Induction event introducing the methods and processes of ITC.

Meet the following minimum criteria:
* Have a current First Aid at Work qualification.
* Hold a threshold adult education qualification and be a member of the Institute for Learning
* Verifiably demonstrate delivery (training, assessment and administration) of 1-day emergency first aid training.
* Meet ongoing quality processes criteria.

If the intention is to deliver additional qualifications such as first aid at work, outdoor first aid, paediatric first aid, motorcyclist first aid then an individual action plan is developed according to prior learning and experience.

Please download documents PP0 & S1 from the policies/procedures link on the homepage of this website.

Q. Why do I have to attend an Induction event?

A. The Induction event is the beginning of your relationship with ITC and covers the key components to becoming an accredited and approved Provider. The content may look dry however all who attend will give testify to the dynamic, interactive, purposeful, informative methodology of the event, you will be expected to participate in real and simulated training, assessment and other related activity:
* The First Aid sector explained
* ITC policy and procedure application
* ITC resources and support available
* First Aid qualification content
* First Aid training, assessment, administration and verification
* The resources tools to deliver the ITC 1-day EFAW programme
* ITC web office tutorial
* Individual action plan to support your eventual delivery of ITC qualifications

We do not leave you to work it all out yourself but rather give you an inspirational product that works for your clients and then you can tweak and adapt resources and methods to make the course 'your own'.

Q. What prior knowledge and experience do I need to attend an ITC Provider Induction course?

A. The path to becoming an ITC first aid provider is open to all.
However all Providers will have to meet the minimum criteria before delivering qualifications and claiming certificates.
As always enthusiasm, commitment and talent for this sector will help greatly.

You will be expected to possess or be working towards (i.e booked on):
*Full First Aid at Work certificate.
*Adult Education qualification - threshold standard is PTLLS.

Q. Once I have completed the Induction what next?

A. You will receive a negotiated individual action plan appropriate to your experience, wishes and performance during the induction event. The end point of which is that you organise candidates and venue then verifiably demonstrate the training, assessment and administration for the 1-day EFAW qualification.
We will expect you to make a commitment to reach this level of operation within 3 months of the induction event.

Typical post induction pathways can include:
* A programme of existing courses being delivered by experienced ITC Providers for you to observe/assist upon until you can demonstrate full delivery of the EFAW qualification.
* Mentor and ITC support to develop ITC resources leading to the complete delivery of a 6-hour EFAW course.

Once approved the Provider may wish to develop their portfolio of ITC qualifications. See document PP1 from the policy/procedure link at bottom of the page.

Q. Where and when are these Induction events?

A. Look on the 'Find a Trainers Course' tab.
